Donation Delivery

I watch sales, clearance, and get online coupons for decent quality dog foods to deliver to GHAM, the shelter we donated Faolan from. They keep a food pantry for the public, if times are tough and someone needs assistance. I also pick up treats for the shelter dogs, and donate the subscription box toys we cannot use to be sent home with newly adopted dogs.

My awesome neighbors knew I was going out there today, and Marcie had some food and treats for them as well!

I took several bags of dog kibble.

A few bags of cat kibble.

Some dog treats and toys. I actually stopped at a feed and seed by my house and got some more treats.

Several cans of kitten food that I purchased on clearance for $0.20 per can.

I also took some candy for the humans.

While there, I snapped a couple of shelter dogs' pics, as I have a friend who is contemplating rescuing another dog.

There are many ways to help. Adopt, foster, transport, network, donate, volunteer.

Some day, I would love to be able to foster, but for now, I help by donating and networking.

Happy Anniversary Bruce!!

Two years ago today, April 28, 2011, we adopted Bruce from a local rescue group.

The night we brought him home.

He bit me later that night.
We had met him with Neeko prior to adoption, and he seemed a bit stand-offish, but nothing bad.
The rescue group promoted him as a big boy who would make a nice family pet.

Looking back now, I realize his foster mom was afraid of him, and he demonstrated a couple of behaviors at our initial meeting that should have been a warning. He grumbled when I went to greet him, and raised his dorsal cape when Les did.

I have literally shed blood, sweat and tears over Bruce. He has bitten me. He has also proven himself to be a very sweet, affectionate, obedient boy.

From the beginning, he was a severe resource guarder, with fear and anxiety issues that he compensated for by acting like a jerk. We attended basic obedience, and used his food motivation in our favor.

Last year we started him on medication, which does help some. I've read of research suggesting that Omega fatty acid imbalances can contribute to canine aggression, so we supplement with fish oil. We have learned his triggers, and try not to put him in situations that will cause him to act like an asshole.

Two years in progress, and Bruce is now a wonderful, sweet boy at home, unless he has an illegal item. Aside from walks, he rarely goes on adventures outside the house, unless its to our favorite park on a weekday. Anywhere Bruce goes, Les has to go as well.

Happy gotcha day, buddy, and here's to many more years of them!

2013 Mutt Strut-Indy Dog Friendly

As in 2011 and 2012 we participated in the Indianapolis Mutt Strut.  It is a fundraiser for Indy Humane.  Loads of fun each year.  We only took Neeko, with hopes of taking Faolan next year.

We met up with a couple of Les's coworkers/friends and their dogs.  We also ran into quite a few people we know.

We did one lap around the famed track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is 2.5 miles, and did several laps through the vendors section.

This year was a bit disappointing in regards to vendors and exhibitors, but we still had a great time.

Butler Blue III, mascot for the Butler Bulldogs.

Me and my girl, relaxing prior to walking.

We saw several different dogs and people.  Mutts, purebreds, the whole gamut.

A handsome Basenji.

A friend of ours, with her rescues, Rebel and Lucy.

Pretty girl Mina, who belongs to a coworker of Les.

Its SO hard to be Neeko.

Yorkies!!

Her durr face on the Yard of Bricks.

Les and his coworkers, with their pups Mina and Halo.

A pretty Dalmatian.

Neeko begging for some hamburger.

I had to laugh at this tie-dyed dog.

Pretty pibbles!!

Corgis!!
All in all, a great time!

Random Recap

Today was my weekday off, and as is typical, I stayed pretty busy.

We have attempted to trim Faolan's nails at home, and he becomes a brat. Snarling, jerking, biting at the clippers. Very unlike him. I emailed a local groomer, described his behavior, and she said to bring him in.

She was very nice, but he pulled his usual antics, and wound up muzzled. He bucked, squirmed and kicked. She managed to trim and/or dremel all his nails.

I earned a pretty scratch on my upper arm from said nails.

Afterwards he and I went to PetsMart, where he got to say hi to and get loving from several people, which he loves.

We then hit up DQ, and he had a Pup Cup.

He quite enjoyed his ice cream.

I returned him home, where Neeko and Bruce worked us both over with their noses to see where we had been.

I ran some human errands, including grocery shopping. I always look at the "quick sale" meat, but rarely find anything affordable.

Today I found three packages of chicken hearts and gizzards marked down to $1 per lb. That's a good price for boneless meat, so I picked up all three packages.

I have been contemplating buying a second freezer for a while, preferably a small chest. When Rodney told Les he might switch his Indy deliveries to every other month I realized I needed to find one.

I found a 5.2 cf on Craigslist for $50, so Les and I picked it up this evening. It was being used in a small restaurant, so there are a few dings/scuffs/smudges on the outside. The inside is spotless, having only ever been used for ice. The trio had to check it out, and Faolan scent-rolled on it.

Finally, just a few pictures from today of my beloved dogs.
