Ice Cream

Although I feed mostly Prey Model Raw, I often give my dogs non-raw treats. Store bought soft treats, biscuits, cheese, apple, banana etc. An occasional treat they love is ice cream! Vanilla or strawberry at home, Nature's Variety Sweet Spots, or a pup cup from Dairy Queen.

Here is Faolan enjoying his first pup cup last night :-)

Meat prices

Screen shot of email between me and my favorite farmer, showing some of the prices.

I am very pleased with these prices. Duck is hard to come by, especially without paying much more than this. The duck leg quarters, at $1.35 per lb, are slightly above my goal of less than $1.00 per lb for bone-in meats. But it's duck!

I love his variety and prices, especially with organs. His beef is grass fed.

One meat I did not purchase with this order is pork hearts, which he sells for $0.75 per lb.

Following is my email confirmation of my coOp order.

These prices aren't quite as great as my favorite farmer's, but I'll take them. I'm most excited about the goat hearts, duck hearts, and lamb lung, as these are items they've not had before. Neeko and Bruce have had all these proteins. Faolan has had chicken, turkey, beef and pork. I figure a bony back from Rodney will be a nice introduction to duck for him.

Dinner 8/25/12, and Freezer Pics

Tonight's dinner-huge chunk beef heart, egg.

Pics of my dedicated dog freezer, inspired by a thread on DFC. It seems empty to me. I'll be picking up two nice orders in the next couple weeks.

We also have a second side-by-side, that holds a few dog foods. It currently has bags of individually frozen beef spleen and liver chunks, and a (free) turkey.

Dinner 8/24/12, and Meat Orders

Tonight's dinner-venison, sheep heart, pork liver.

I placed a nice order with my coOp this morning, and am waiting for a confirmation from my favorite farmer on a really nice order from him.

Apparently, my super cheap meat prices will soon come to and end. Rodney (my fave farmer) is advising people to stock up, as he expects meat prices to soar come winter.

My Favorite Farmer

I met my favorite farmer, Rodney the rabbit guy, this morning to pick up some meat. I've already broken down 10 lbs of beef heart and 20 lbs of pork heart, weighed, repackaged and labeled it (pictured). I still have another 30 lbs of beef heart, 5 lbs of beef liver, 5 lbs of pork kidney, and 3 lbs of beef spleen to break down from this order. I probably have an additional 20 lbs of beef heart in my freezer that hasn't been broken down.

Rodney drives from northern Indiana to Indianapolis once a month to deliver excellent quality meat at amazing prices to his central Indiana raw feeders. I am so happy I stumbled upon him in the CFS Yahoo Group.

Here she is on the front of Speck's (a local pet food and supplies chain) July circular.

Apologies and update

I haven't posted in a while. Partly due to laziness, partly because I have a new addition who has been keeping me busy.

INTRODUCING FAOLAN!!!

Faolan is a lower mid content wolfdog whom we rescued on 7/5/12 from Greenfield-Hancock Animal Management. We were told he was about 9 months old, though he may be younger. We will recognize his birthday as 10/5/11. WD's are typically released to rescue only.

He is a very sweet boy, but ornery when he wants to be. He is almost fully recovered from his neuter last week, and we will be working on his training and socialization.

He is much smaller than Neeko and Bruce, in weight, length and height. I feel he has Husky and GSD him.

Neeko and Bruce are doing better than I hoped with him.

He is currently eating half raw/half kibble, as I need to put some weight on him. He took the raw amazingly.
